Leelanau Peninsula on the M-22
The scenic M-22 is part of the Lake Michigan Circle Tour. It runs 116 miles from Manistee County in the south to the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula and back down to Traverse City. Along the way, the M-22 mostly follows the coastline as it passes through picturesque villages like Frankfort, Glen Arbor, and Suttons Bay. The highlight of the route for many is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, a stretch of unspoiled natural shoreline that is one of the most beautiful places in the state.
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on the H-58
County Road H-58 is located on the northern edge of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It stretches 69 miles from Munising to Deer Park, going west to east. It's the main road through Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, providing access to all the park's can't-miss sights like Miners Falls and 12 Mile Beach. As in much of the Upper Peninsula, stretches of the road can be fairly isolated, so motorcyclists are advised to stop by a service center for a tune-up before heading out.
Red Arrow Highway
The iconic Red Arrow Highway is a marked route in the southwestern corner of the state. The road largely follows the old St. Joesph Trail, one of the oldest routes in the state, used by Native Americans to cross the peninsula from Lake Michigan to Lake Erie. The stretch of road from New Buffalo to St. Joseph is dotted with vineyards and orchards that make for perfect stopping points.
These scenic drives barely scratch the surface of all that Michigan has to offer motorists.
